The candy-cane stripes
Look frozen now,
On the old lighthouse
At the lake.
Sand on the once busy beach
Lies undisturbed,
Except for the frothy waves
Rising to meet it.
The water looks
Restless as it
Churns old shells
And Petoskey stones
Beneath its surface.
Boats left in the harbor
Sway in the icy breeze,
Dancing until their owners
Return yet again.
But for now,
Everything waits
For the Sun.
